Switch to OEM (Intel/AMD/NVIDIA) Display Driver for Scout 1.14+
Why do this?
For customers running 1.14+, the display adapter should be set to use the OEM driver (Intel/AMD/NVIDIA). The Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is for older Scout versions only and may cause instability on 1.14+.
You’ll need: Windows administrator credentials and about 10 minutes (and be prepared for a reboot).
Step 1 — Confirm your Scout version
- Open Scout → Help → Scout Portal Version: Make sure it’s 1.14.0 or newer.
Step 2 — Prep (admin access)
- Have your admin username/password ready
Step 3 — Open Device Manager
- Press Win + X → Device Manager.
Step 4 — Expand Display adapters
- Click the arrow ▸ next to Display adapters. Right-click your adapter.
Step 5 — Update Driver
- In Device Manager → Display adapters, if you see Microsoft Basic Display Adapter:
Right-click Microsoft Basic Display Adapter → Update driver →
Search automatically
- TIP: If you already see Intel/AMD/NVIDIA here: Right-click it → Update driver (install latest).
Step 6 — Restart
- After reboot, Windows completes the OEM driver install and uses the OEM adapter.
Step 7 — Expected result:
- Device Manager now shows Intel/AMD/NVIDIA (and not Microsoft Basic Display Adapter).
Step 8 — Test in Scout
- Launch Scout. Confirm the preview/thermal overlay looks stable—no flicker, no crashes.
