Recommended Windows Settings for Best Scout Performance
Applies to: Computers used for taking bedside images
Power settings (Best/Maximum Performance)
Scout performs best when Windows is configured for performance:
Disable Sleep
Set Power mode to Best Performance
Turn off Battery Saver (Windows 10/11)
Disable USB power saving (prevents camera instability)
If the camera is left powered and Windows stops the USB device, the video subsystem can become unstable and may require a reboot.
Do the following:
Disable USB Battery Saver
Windows 11: Settings → Bluetooth & devices (USB power settings)
Windows 10: Use USB Selective Suspend settings
In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
Right-click each device → Properties → Power Management
Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
Do not apply this to USB Composite Device
Best practices
Power off camera/computer when not in use for extended periods
Charge cart/computer when battery is below 30%
Reboot after system updates/patches
Plug camera USB directly into the computer (no USB hubs)
